As many of you are aware, today, Mayor Strickland issued a Safer at Home Executive Order, effective at 6:00 p.m., March 24, 2020 through midnight April 7, 2020, directing all residents of Memphis to stay inside their homes, and immediately limit all movement outside of their homes beyond what is absolutely necessary to take care of essential needs. Because of this, ECS will be closed until Tuesday, April 7.
While school closure is not what any of us desire, authorities tell us that this is the best action to prevent the spread of COVID-19. I am so thankful for technology and how well you, our students and teachers have responded to the transition to remote learning so quickly. Our teachers are still able to engage with their students daily and progress in their academic goals. We are all continually learning through this process, and we encourage open communication among parents, students, teachers and administrators as we respond to this new opportunity and the challenges that come with it.
I encourage you to stay updated on the news regarding COVID-19. The best information is found on the Centers for Disease Control website at www.cdc.gov. Because news regarding COVID-19 changes every day, please check your email and texts from ECS frequently in order to stay informed about how this affects our school.
In closing, I ask for your prayers for protection for our community as well as patience and grace for our faculty, staff and students as we seek to continue academic excellence during this unprecedented time in our children's lives. Please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, principal or to me as we navigate this change together. It is a privilege to partner with you.
