Congrats to Coach Thompson and the Lady Eagles soccer team for earning the opportunity to compete for another state title!
The Lady Eagles soccer team hosted Grace Christian Academy from Knoxville in a substate match with a ticket to the state semifinal on the line. Winning the region gave ECS a chance to host the game, and a nice crowd was there to cheer on the ladies. It was the last home game for our two seniors Bailey Pittman and Maddy Stolnicki. ECS continued their strong play of late and took control of possession and the game from the start. Senior Maddy Stolnicki got the scoring started with the 100th goal of her ECS career to take a 1-0 lead. Maddy would get two more goals for a first half hat trick to give ECS a 3-0 lead at the break.
The total team effort would continue in the second half. A strong back line both neutralized any threat from Grace Christian and also triggered the attack. The midfield would provide the needed possession and tactical play. Great ball movement and unselfish play lead to a nice buildup and a finish by freshman Pheobe Harpole to make the score 4-0. Sophomore Annie Todd would also get in on the scoring with a nice finish up the middle of the field for the final score of 5-0. Goalies Taylor Huffman and Meredith Wicktom would help keep the ball out of our net for another shutout.
Next up for the Lady Eagles is a state semifinal matchup with Chattanooga Christian School at Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro Thursday, October 26, at 6:30 pm. Congrats to Coach Thompson and the team for earning the opportunity to compete for another state title.
