England/Scotland 2018!
England/Scotland 2018!

What a great adventure!

The England-Scotland Trip 2018 led by Jenny Shorten and Robert Jones was packed with amazing, sights, new experiences, great adventures, and incredible learning opportunities. The group left June 24 and returned July 2, filled with stories to tell and once in a lifetime memories. Among many other sights, their time included a Thames River Cruise, riding the London Eye, exploring the Underground, touring historic Westminster Abbey, and time at St. James Park. They viewed Buckingham Palace, ate lunch at The Crypt, toured The Imperial War Museum, shopped at Harrods, and saw Leicester Square. There was a ride on a red double decker bus and a visit to the Tower of London. Another day brought the experiences of seeing Anne Boleyn beheaded(!) and then lunch at Borough Market. What an experience- a myriad of tastes, smells, and sounds. The group traveled by train to Windsor Castle, ate lunch in the village, and then attended a production of the incomparable musical, Les Miserables.

On to Oxford for the day and the Kilns, home of C.S. Lewis. Robert Jones spoke to the group about the impact of Lewis even now. A special guided tour of Christ Church with a friend of Robert Jones brought it to life. Dinner was at Wagamama and watched the England/Belgium game in a pub. The following day they visited Hampton Court, home of Henry VIII.

A gorgeous scenic train journey took them to Edinburgh, Scotland. While there, they made a strenuous climb up to Arthur's Seat only to discover that they had taken the extreme route which literally went straight up the mountain at a precarious angle. They were very proud of that accomplishment and were convinced they were now ready for Everest! In Edinburgh, tours included Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral where John Knox served, an evening tour of the underground city, and the Scottish National Gallery which included paintings by Monet, Cezanne, Degas, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Seurat, to name but a few.
