ECS Alumnus Ryan Cummins Appointed Middle School Principal

Ben Burgess to Become Director of Teaching & Instruction & Faculty Recruitment

Ryan Cummins, ECS class of 2001, has been named the Middle School Principal, effective the 2019-2020 school year. He exhibits the passion, enthusiasm, and heart for students that is key in promoting an academic and discipleship culture in middle school. Not only does he understand and support the mission of our school, but he also knows firsthand the importance of an ECS education.

Ryan's leadership style is one of servanthood with passion and enthusiasm, investing as a relationship-first leader in teachers, students, and parents. He has a passion for the classroom and teamwork, empowering teachers to do what they love by engaging students and developing meaningful relationships with them, leading them towards deep relationships with the Lord and a commitment to academics.

Ryan received a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education - Social Science from Auburn University (2005) and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Troy University (2009). For the last fourteen years, Ryan has served in leadership, teaching, and coaching at Auburn High School in Auburn, Alabama. Currently, he teaches AP European History and Early American History, coaches football and basketball, and leads the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Ryan is married to Tiffany, and they have two daughters, Anderson (age 7) and Garrett (4 weeks), and a son, Bradley (age 5). Both Ryan and Tiffany are excited to return to Memphis and serve ECS, a school family and faculty that greatly impacted him, his relationship with Christ, and his desire to pursue a career in education.

We will host a Meet and Greet for you to meet Ryan and his family on Tuesday, April 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the Legacy Center Lobby prior to the Boys Varsity Soccer game.

Ben Burgess will be serving as the Director of Teaching and Instruction and Faculty Recruitment beginning this summer. According to Head of School Braxton Brady, "...one of my main goals in ensuring academic excellence is to create alignment of our curriculum throughout departments and grades. As I have gotten to know Ben over the past year, it has become clear that his passion and gifting is in improving our curriculum and teaching methods to better reflect the 21st century classroom. Another aspect of his new role will be to recruit mission-fit faculty members who seek academic excellence and have a heart for discipling our students. Ben is excited about this new change and is looking forward to coming alongside our teachers in our school-wide pursuit of excellence."
