A Special Recognition for Gay Edge who is leaving ECS after having served for 33 years as a teacher, Middle School Principal, and Academic Dean as well as numerous other roles and responsibilities was given by MS teacher Kathy Kallaher along with numerous notes and a gift from the many in the ECS community who have known, loved, and appreciated Gay for her long service, her godly character, and her wide range of knowledge and wisdom.
The Steve Collums Distinguished Faculty Award recognizes outstanding contributions by an ECS instructor in the teaching and mentoring of students in their classroom, the heart and soul of what made Steve Collums so special. Previous winners are Mark Brink - 2010, John Roelofs - 2011, Peggy Selph - 2012, Paul Vander Zwaag - 2013, Barbara Yelverton - 2014, Gay Edge - 2015, Stephanie Eubank - 2016, and Ashley Colley - 2017. This year's award was presented to Jenny Shorten, Director of Enrichment and Electives, Social Studies Department Chair, and newly named Academic Dean.
A special presentation was made to Mark Brink for his 45 years of service after a meaningful tribute was given by John Roelofs, the only other faculty member to have reached this significant milestone. Former ECS Headmaster Mickey Bowdon announced that the Mark Brink Scholarship would begin in the 2018-2019 school year and that the auditorium would be named Mark Brink Auditorium from this point on. These well-deserved honors will perpetually remind our community of the great contributions to the mission of ECS made by Mark Brink throughout his 45 year tenure.
