Visual Arts

The Visual Arts program at ECS allows students to pursue excellence through in depth studies in Drawing, Watercolor, Acrylics, Ceramics, Art III and AP Art. At ECS, art classes are offered by media to allow students to pursue mastery of a media rather than just a survey of materials. The studio courses give students valuable techniques and problems solving skill that allows them to reflect the Creator in all areas of life.

David Butler teaches Drawing, Watercolor, Acrylic, Ceramics, Art III, AP Drawing and AP 3D.
An ECS alumnus graduating in 1997, David attended Mississippi College to study art and run cross country. Earning his degree in Art Education, he returned to ECS to teach art in the upper school in 2001. In addition to teaching art, David is ECS Artist in Residence and Fine Arts Department Chair.

David has been married to Hillary, also a professional painter, since 2007. The Butlers have two sons, Cedar and Fox. They attend Independent Presbyterian Church where David serves as a deacon.

When his responsibilities at ECS are done for the day David creates watercolors of his favorite Memphis locations. His work can be found at Davidbutlerart.bigcartel.com
