Overwhelmed . . .
Overwhelmed . . .

While praying for the children in my car, I became overwhelmed in that moment by the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ — that God would deliver me from what I deserved, hell (domain of darkness), and transfer me into the kingdom of His beloved Son.

Each school day, I have the privilege of driving my two oldest children and another ECS student that lives in our neighborhood to school. One of my morning traditions is to pray for them as we turn into our Shelby Farms campus. (And yes, I do keep my eyes open while driving and praying.) Earlier this week, I was praying out loud for them as we turned onto the campus, and I began to chuckle. I closed the prayer and my daughter asked, "Why did you laugh, Daddy?"

During the prayer, I began to quote one of my favorite passages, Colossians 1:13-14, which states, "He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." While quoting a portion of this passage in the prayer for these children in my car, I became overwhelmed in that moment by the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ — that God would deliver me from what I deserved, hell (domain of darkness), and transfer me into the kingdom of His beloved Son. No matter what you may be facing in life, I hope and pray you will visit this passage and dwell on the beauty of the gospel. May the gospel never become too familiar to us, and may its truth cause us all to abound in hope (Romans 15:13).
