Academics that inspire. Legacies that endure. (Part III)
Academics that inspire. Legacies that endure. (Part III)

Legacies that endure is a pursuit of investing in the next generation in the here and now with hopes that the investment will be handed down from generation to generation

Over the last several weeks, I have purposed to begin a conversation about our positioning line – Academics that inspire. Legacies that endure. The first week, I introduced the apologia for a positioning line as part of Vision 20|20. Last week, I painted a picture of what we mean by the first part of the positioning line –Academics that inspire. This week, my aim is to give a vision for the second half of the positioning line – Legacies that endure.

I have a dislike for the language educators use in the phrase "college-preparatory" because I believe that is a myopic vision of education. If our aim is merely to prepare students for the next four years of their lives, well, I do not want to be a part. Do I want to prepare them for college? Absolutely! However, the scope of our preparation does not end in the college years. We are a life-preparatory school aimed to equip our students for life as sojourners here, but also life eternal. This reality is embedded in our mission as a school - to provide the Christian family a Christ-centered, biblically-directed education that challenges students to know the Lord Jesus Christ and to develop the vision and practice of excellence in academics, character, leadership and service to others.

A legacy is something that can be handed down, and a legacy that endures conjures in my head the psalmist in Psalm 78. In this text, there is purposive language to tell the coming generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord that they might know Him and put their hope in Him (Psalm 78:4-7). Legacies that endure is a pursuit of investing in the next generation in the here and now with hopes that the investment will be handed down from generation to generation. It would endure forever because it is rooted in knowing Jesus Christ. What a significant thing to pursue day in and day out! May we be a village of people committed to providing Academics that inspire. Legacies that endure.
