Jenny Shorten has 26 years of teaching experience with an emphasis on Social Studies (European History and Geography). Mrs. Shorten is ECS’ Director of Enrichment and Electives, managing enrichment and elective opportunities K – 12 and the Director of Support Services in the Upper School. In addition, she is the Social Studies Department Chair and teaches AP European History. She also has direct responsibility for the growth and development of ECS’ involvement in the YMCA Model United Nations and Youth in Government Programs. Outside of ECS, Mrs. Shorten is the West Tennessee Liaison for the Tennessee Geographic Alliance. The Alliance exists “to assist in the creation of an informed citizenry by improving the stature of geography in the curriculum and empowering teachers and students at all levels with knowledge and performance capabilities that enhance lifelong learning.” She also serves on the Board of the Tennessee Council for Social Studies as the Chairman of the Social Studies Resource Committee and Chairman of the Workshop Committee. Mrs. Shorten has a passion for learning and teaching and strongly believes that a great teacher is one who never stops the quest of learning.
Mrs. Shorten and her husband John have been married 26 years. They are the parents of three children: Nicola (ECS 2012), Andrew (ECS 2015), and Cati who is an ECS sophomore. The Shortens attend Orchard Church.
