Lady Eagles Soccer Takes Region Title
Lady Eagles Soccer Takes Region Title

With great team effort, the Lady Eagles took the Region title over rival St. George's!

The two district champions met in a much anticipated match to determine the IIA west Region champion. The build up for this match between rivals was only amplified due to the fact that the two teams did not meet in the regular season this year. The game had a fast start with St. George's getting the better of play in the first 5 minutes. The Lady Eagles defense thwarted several early scoring chances until the Eagles found their possession game and began attacking. ECS got an early goal on a beautiful corner kick from senior Bailey Pittman. Bailey's bending corner kick beat the goalie and went in off a St. George's defender. The Lady Eagles continued pressing the Gryphons and took a 2-0 first half lead when senior Maddy Stolnicki scored midway through the first half after receiving a pass and beating the center defender.

St George's got one back early in the second half on a corner kick. The goal seemed to energize the Lady Eagles who then took control of the game with a strong possession leading to numerous chances. ECS finally broke through and regained the two goal lead. Freshman Nora Burton took a nice cross near the top of the 18 yard box and beat the goalie giving her an open goal for the finish. Strong defense and keeper play would seal the final score at 3-1.

With probably the best total team effort of the year, the Lady Eagles look like they are starting to play their best soccer. All phases of the game seem to be clicking for the team including strong defense, possession in the middle of the field, and a more and more dangerous attack. Even the younger players who are not on the field as much are doing their part, cheering loudly and encouraging their teammates. Next up the Lady Eagles will host a substate game Saturday, October 21, opponent and time to be determined.
