More information about Emma's project:

The seed of the idea began when 2018 senior Emma Johnson was on her seventh grade Chicago trip, and she has never given up on making it actually happen! For the past eight years, the seventh graders have participated in a service project during their annual trip with an organization called Feed My Starving Children. According to their website, FMSC, which was founded in 1987, "is a Christian non-profit that provides nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children. FMSC's mission: Feeding God's starving children hungry in body and spirit." This incredible ministry provides hundreds of thousands of nutritional meals to hungry children around the world. After experiencing the comradery that resulted from the day of packing meals, Emma Johnson wanted to bring such an event to Memphis.

Over the next few years, Emma emerged as a strong servant leader at ECS. She attributes her growth in this area to the examples of her teachers and other faculty leaders at ECS. She reasoned that if these people she respected had given so much of themselves to serve others, then so should she. She was convinced that God was prompting her to pursue the challenge of bringing FMSC to ECS so she took steps to start the daunting process.

After long months of communicating with the FMSC organization and undertaking the challenging task to secure sponsors for financial and volunteer assistance, Emma is well on her way. A minimum of $22,000 in sponsorships and donations is required to host a packing event which results in assembling 100,000 meals. Emma has worked diligently and continues to contact both corporate and personal sponsors to raise the needed funding. To date, Living Hope Haiti Christian Mission, Gavion, Medtronic, Chick-fil-A in Germantown, Starbucks in Cordova, Chili's in Cordova, Thompson Insurance Agency, Bellevue Baptist Church, ECS,and Sister Tammy Delaney have agreed to sponsor Emma's event which is scheduled for Saturday, September 9 at ECS. There is still a need for financial donations as well as for volunteers to work 2 hour shifts throughout the day. Anyone over the age of five can help! Visit her FACEBOOK page for more information.
