ECS Welcomes New Head Football Coach
Jonas Rodriguez, Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at The Ensworth School in Nashville, TN, has been named the varsity head football coach at Evangelical Christian School in Cordova, TN. Jonas brings 13 years of coaching experience at nationally ranked and recognized football programs and is considered by many as one of the top coaches in the state of Tennessee.
Coach Rodriguez desires to develop a program built on the pillars of prayer, faith, humility, praise, sacrifice, and servant leadership. While he is driven to build a championship football program, his real desire is to use football as a conduit to mentor kids through the gospel that will effect change in their lives.
While serving as the defensive coordinator at both Montgomery Bell Academy and The Ensworth School the past 11 seasons, Jonas has coached three state championship teams and two state runners-up in Tennessee’s Division II highest football classification. In high school at Montgomery Bell Academy, Jonas was a three sport athlete on teams winning state championships in football (1998, 1999), basketball (1998, 2000), and track and field (1998, 1999).
After being selected as a Mr. Football finalist in 1999 by the TSSAA, Jonas continued his football career at Yale University (2000-2003) where he was a four year letterman and earned the Special Teams Player of the Year award while also contributing to the team as a running back and defensive back.
Jonas brings an unparalleled level of success in the coaching and development of his players. Since 2011, Jonas has coached 28 players who have gone on to play at the collegiate level including 16 Division 1 signees. His established relationships with college coaches across the country will open doors and create opportunities for all players in the ECS program.
As a nationally recognized coach at the high school level, Jonas has been invited to speak at several football clinics including the Vanderbilt Football Clinic, the Frank Glazier Clinic, and the Nike Coach of the Year Clinic.
Jonas has certifications and associations with the American Football Coaches Association, Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Certified Coach, Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association, and is also First Aid and CPR Certified.
According to Barton Simmons, College Football Insider and Director of Scouting, 247 Sports, "I am around football and football coaches every day and Jonas Rodriguez is one of the best young coaches you're going to find anywhere in America. I've played on high school state championship teams with him and won a lot of college football games beside him and I've never seen anyone more selflessly committed to the people around him and more willing and eager to outwork everybody. This is a guy that SEC coordinators have praised to me but who is born to coach high school football. I fully expect ECS to become one of the name programs in Tennessee and a must-hit for college coaches under his guidance."
Ensworth Athletic Director and head football coach Ricky Bowers commented on his defensive coordinator, "Jonas is smart, resourceful, and an extremely hard worker. He is responsible for much of our athletic successes here at Ensworth and will certainly be a great Head Football Coach."
Jonas is married to Crockett (Hale) Rodriguez, and they have four children: Richard
(7), Eleanor (5), Hale (4) and Jack (2).
Congratulations to the recently selected ECS Varsity Cheer Squad for the 2017-2018 school year!
